Type of Construction: Addition
Square Footage: 25,000
Location: Atlanta, GA
Project Description:
The 25,000-square-foot addition is a two-story steel frame building with a large terrace for viewing and outdoor entertainment. Completed on a fast-track schedule in order to host the television stations for the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, the project was scheduled to take eight months to construct, but the first week of construction uncovered numerous undetected utilities. The project schedule had to absorb massive relocation of utilities underlying the building footprint. The project included a three-tier waterproofing and paving system at the observation deck/roof re-skinning the entire façade in order to make it conceal the addition and a circular board room with a glass domed ceiling. This project was a joint venture with Beers Skanska, Inc.
