Project Description:
C.D. Moody Construction Company recently completed the construction
of a 324,000 square foot parking deck for the City of Atlanta.
The parking deck consists of five levels, which will handle
863 spaces. The façade was designed to match the surrounding
municipal buildings of “summer beige” precast and
red brick face. The parking deck is surrounded by Trinity United
Methodist Church, Atlanta Public School Headquarters, The Hope
House, and City Hall. The deck’s foundation was constructed
of 260 fifty-one foot deep piles and constructed to accommodate
two additional levels to be added in the north bay of the deck,
which will be an additional 32,000 square feet for offices for
the City of Atlanta.
The interior of the deck has three elevators and two stairwells
that are designed with a storefront system, and full height glass
from floor-to-floor at all levels. The design took into consideration
customer safety, and the elevators are constructed of glass
fronts and backs that are highly visible from surrounding streets. There
will be a state of the art security system with video cameras
throughout the structure.
The parking deck is located on the furthermost SW corner of a
3.16 acrs site to allow for future expansion for the 40,000
square foot office annex building and potential retail building
that will be adjacent to the parking deck. The project site is
surrounded by four main city streets. Trinity Avenue, Central
Avenue, Washington Street, City of Atlanta and Memorial Drive.
